Due to the absence of an employee on parental leave we have a fixed term opportunity for a Publishing Manager to join us from August 2010 to July 2011.

Te Papa Press is New Zealand’s unique museum publishing house, creating popular books of excellent quality about New Zealand’s art, culture and natural world for museum visitors and readers everywhere.

The successful applicant will be responsible for managing the publishing team and overseeing all publishing, editorial and sales processes to deliver to market the Te Papa Press list in 2010 and 2011.

To be successful in this role you will be an energetic individual with well-honed communication skills and:

  • Thorough knowledge and experience of publishing principles and practice.
  • A good working knowledge of the New Zealand and international book trade.
  • An awareness of publishing trends in New Zealand and internationally.
  • Experience in the delivery to market of commercially viable books.
  • Competency in understanding and analysing financial information.
  • Experience in managing publishing, editorial and sales staff.
  • Sound knowledge of copyright principles.
  • Understanding of Maori tikanga and some familiarity with Maori language.

Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
