Job description: 

The Library and Research Coordinator will lead a small team to build upon the great work already achieved. The Walsh Memorial Library is a reference library open to the public and has a large range of books, oral histories and images relating to transport, technology and social history.

This role will ensure the effective management of gathering, maintaining, storing and referencing reliable collection related data and information.

Reporting to the Museum Collection Manager the main duties will include:

  • Acceptance of acquisitions for the Museum Collection
  • Managing and monitoring the quality of inventory, catalogue and database processing
  • Working closely with the wider collection team to promote and engage in research
  • Develop and implement regular and ongoing data integrity reviews
  • Receive and process all research requests from the public and colleagues
  • Development and presentation of training workshops
  • Deliver research training to the wider museum team

Skills and experience desired

  • A degree and Post-graduate qualification library studies
  • Three years successful work experience
  • People management experience
  • Experience working in an archive preferred
  • Computer literacy – advanced MS Office and Vernon database or equivalent
  • Proven writing and research skills
  • Experience with relational databases
