Christchurch Symphony Orchestra is the South Island’s leading Orchestra performing in over fifty events a year. 

Christchurch Symphony Orchestra provides a balanced, eclectic and accessible programme of music that spans the full range of orchestral repertoire. Christchurch Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is seeking to appoint a Manager of Artistic Planning. Reporting to the Chief Executive the successful candidate must have:

  • superior knowledge of orchestral repertoire 
  • informed, up-to-date and thorough knowledge of artists, agents and orchestras in particular in the Australasian region
  • proven experience in programming
  • superior understanding of the symphony orchestra and its repertoire
  • knowledge of the orchestra’s market
  • excellent understanding of all aspects of the planning process
  • excellent administrative ability

This key roll will be part of the Executive Management Team and will actively participate in artistic planning, devise and manage elements of the artistic operating budget, assist in the creation and implementation of the long-range plan as related to artistic development and administration, Identify relevant trends that may present new opportunities for the orchestra and opera.

Key skills sought: 

Superior knowledge of orchestral repertoire, excellent administrative ability, proven experience in programming
