The Corning Museum of Glass houses the world’s largest, most comprehensive collection of glass, containing 45,000 objects in an architecturally stunning campus in the town of Corning in New York State, USA.

In 2009 the Museum welcomed over 350,000 visitors to its 167,000 s.f. facility. In addition to the expansive galleries are the 18,000 s.f. Glass Market and the Glass Innovation Center, an interactive and interpretive exhibit on the science and technology of glass and glassmaking, the Rakow Research Library, the world’s library of record on glass, and The Studio, a hands-on facility for teaching glassmaking with working space for professional glassmakers.

The Museum operates with a $34 million budget and a staff of 130, with a library and acquisition budget of $1.7 million and a curatorial, exhibition and research budget of $2 million.

The Deputy Director/Director of Curatorial Affairs reports to the Executive Director, is a member of the Museum’s Senior Leadership Team, and works closely with the Museum’s paid President. S/he will have a working relationship with the Board of Trustees. The Deputy Director/Director of Curatorial Affairs has seven direct reports and supervises the curatorial, collections and conservation departments, prepares budgets, communicates the staffs’ goals and concerns to the Leadership Team, and represents the Museum at national and international professional meetings as well as in the community.

The successful candidate will have 15+ years of experience in progressively senior museum positions that involved significant curatorial and administrative responsibilities and oversight of budgets of comparable size. S/he must have a PhD in art history, material culture, science, history or other discipline related to the Museum’s interests or significant equivalent experience with a solid scholarly and publications record.
