Exhibition Assistants

This October to January, Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu is proud to present a major exhibition of work by internationally renowned sculptor Ron Mueck. Ron Mueck's 'super-real' sculptures have enthralled audiences all over the world - and now they are coming to New Zealand with Christchurch Art Gallery as the only venue.

Due to the size of the exhibition and the number of visitors we're expecting, we're looking for additional staff members to undertake the role of Exhibition Attendants for the duration of the show. The Ron Mueck exhibition dates are Saturday 2 October 2010 to Sunday 23 January 2011. Successful applicants will be required to undertake a one day training session during the week prior to opening day.

We're looking for highly observant people with excellent customer service and communication skills. We want you to ensure our visitors have a great time and enjoy themselves without touching and damaging any of the artworks on display. So you'll need to be part host and part security guard. You'll work as part of our Visitor Services team and report to our Visitor Services Supervisors.

To be considered for this role you'll need to enjoy working as part of a team, demonstrate a positive 'can-do' attitude, have excellent customer service skills and a real love of art. You'll also need to be a great communicator and be able to politely ensure visitors do not get too close or put any of the works of art at risk. The Gallery is open every day except Christmas Day so you'll need to be available to work weekends and public holidays over the summer season.

Additional recruitment information:
Salary: $14.95 to $17.58 per hour plus 5% superannuation
Hours of work:  Fixed Term, Part-Time positions for a variety of hours and shifts over seven days.
