The position

The History Group of the Ministry for Culture and Heritage is seeking an experienced oral historian/writer to conduct in-depth oral history interviews with approximately 12 veterans of the Korean War and to prepare edited text for publication in a book.  Experience in conducting oral interviews and life histories and excellent communication skills are essential.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for a period of ten months. The Ministry will provide oral history recording equipment and the Senior Oral Historian will oversee the project. Some travel around New Zealand will be required.


The Ministry

The Ministry for Culture and Heritage Te Manatū Taonga funds several of the nation's iconic cultural institutions including Te Papa, the New Zealand Film Commission, TVNZ, the NZSO and Te Matatini. We provide advice to government on cultural matters, and produce award-winning websites including Te Ara (the New Zealand encyclopedia) and the 28th Māori Battalion and NZHistory websites. We administer significant heritage sites such as war graves and the National War Memorial.

Key skills sought:
