We are looking for a Manager/Curator to contribute to the vision and direction of an established artist run space, Enjoy Public Art Gallery.

This role will suit a budding curator with a passion for contemporary art who will bring their creativity to every aspect of the role. You will work outside the constraints of a commercial dealer gallery, curating the annual programme primarily from project proposals, with some opportunity to realise curator-initiated projects.

This position will suit someone in the early stages of their career who wants to foster innovative work by emerging and established artists both nationally and internationally. The Manager/Curator will work with the support of the Communications & Administration Assistant, a team of volunteers and the Enjoy Board of Trustees to deliver a successful programme of exhibitions, public programme events, and publications.

This is a fixed term contract that will enable the right candidate to bring their vision and shape the face of Enjoy for the next 3 years.

Key Responsibilities

Curation and Programme Development

-The majority of the Enjoy programme will be developed from an open proposal submission process with the remainder initiated by the Curator / Gallery Manager. This will require the ability to:

- Research, plan and implement the exhibition programme

- Develop and coordinate public programmes, events and exchanges

- Work with artists to develop and facilitate projects

Management

- Effectively oversee all activities of Enjoy Public Art Gallery within budget and on time

- Manage and coordinate staff, interns and volunteers

- Ensure documentation of all projects is completed

- Facilitate Enjoy openings, talks and events in conjunction with the Communication and Administration Assistant

Financial Management

- Prepare and maintain budgets for shows, series, events and projects

- Complete Funding applications and reports

- Proactively seek new and alternative sources of funding as well as further develop current funder relationships

- Ensure sound financial management is maintained through processing accurate accounts in Xero accounting program, as well as PAYE, GST, and ACC payments

- Produce financial reports quarterly and/or when requested by the Trust

Communication

- Manage all gallery correspondence

- Develop and maintain positive relationships with current and potential funders, sponsors and other stakeholders

- Develop effective marketing strategies in conjunction with the Communication and Administration Assistant

- Develop and maintain relationships with the art sector, artists and relevant business communities

- Liaise with and report regularly to the Trustees of Enjoy regarding all of the above

Competencies

The following attributes are preferred:

- Self-management capability

-Curatorial experience / interest

- Experience in managing / working within a small team

- Knowledge of and interest in contemporary art

- Experience in successfully seeking funding and sponsorship

- Current drivers licence
