Splore is a three day outdoor biennial multi-disciplinary music and arts festival held in an Auckland Regional Park.  It is a truly unique festival where music is the cornerstone of the festival, but where the other multi-arts disciplines and the stunning coastal environment set it apart from any other event in New Zealand. Now in its 13th year, Splore has an enviable reputation for its outstanding delivery of international and national music, visual arts and performance programme which is staged over three days to a 10,000 strong audience who live on site for the festival duration. The next festival will be staged 17-19 February 2012.

After 13 years of producing and directing Splore, the Festival Director is passing the baton and is looking for a highly skilled and experienced outdoor event Producer. You will be an integral part of the Senior Management Team and work closely with the Festival Director and Associate Director (both who are company directors of the organising body Splore Dynamics Ltd), to understand the vision for the Festival and support the development of the festival programme. Strong leadership and negotiation skills will be required to coordinate the Festival producing and programming team.  The Producer will lead the Festival Team but work closely with the Artistic Director to continue to grow a unique world- class Festival of national and international significance

This position is responsible for overall management of:

  • Festival budgets and monitoring
  • Negotiation of contracts and performance rights
  • Programme research on behalf of Festival Director
  • Site logistics including camping, parking and amenities
  • Manage and coordinate the staff responsible for individual aspects of the Festival
  • Oversight of consultant and volunteer services
  • Recruitment of Heads of Departments in liaison with Festival Director

Based in Auckland, this exciting position would suit someone who enjoys working in a high pressure environment, initially as part of a small team which will grow significantly during the lead in time to the Festival. 

 Due to the nature of the Festival a flexible approach to working hours is essential. Applicants must demonstrate capability and experience across the following key criteria: Organisational leadership in the arts and event management, business and financial management; stakeholder development, liaison, negotiation and fulfilment; audience development; and marketing.

It will be compulsory that the Festival Producer works in close collaboration with the Festival Director on all strategic developments, programming, budgeting and production

High level capabilities for the role include extensive commercial experience and knowledge, industry wide contacts as well as financial, staff and project management experience.

The role will begin part time in July/August and move into full time position from September 2011 until mid March 2012
