Gallery Assistant
Junior role, suited to someone with a strong understanding of the day to day running of a dealer gallery. Some existing experience withtin the Arts industry required.
FHE Galleries has a strong focus on uniquely New Zealand & Pacific art and the relationships between historical traditions and contemporary practice. An interest in history and knowledge of both Maori and Pacific culture would be an advantage.
The suitable candidate will assist the director and gallery owner in a range of duties between two seperate galleries and will at times be responsible for sole charge of the premises. The role would include preparing documentation, database administration, website maintenance, cataloguing, assisting with exhibition preparation and openings as well as liaising with artist, clients and institutions.
The position is paid, with a minimum commitment of two full days per week and some flexibility required for openings / special events etc. Specific hours may be negotiated around existing commitments.
Key Skills sought:
- Art History / Fine Arts background and knowledge of New Zealand art.
- Experience within the arts industry.
- Strong administrative and computer skills.
- Sound organisational and time management skills to meet competing priorities and ability to work in a methodical manner with attention to detail.
- Strong written ability.
- Well developed interpersonal and communication skills.
- Full drivers license and access to a vehicle would be an advantage.
