Participants for interdisciplinary show!
Stranger Things
An idea to bring heads together from a broad range of artistic disciplines. The purpose of this project is to encourage collaboration among creative practitioners and create opportunities for strengthening relationships within a broad artistic community. The model for this project has been running successfully in Vancouver for several years with collaborators as diverse as a marine biologist, a professional boxer, a graffiti artist, a hairdresser, a spoken word artist, a circus performer and a lighting designer, amongst others.
What happens is this: John and I select a diverse group of twelve creative professionals and put them into what we deem as interesting pairings. Two weeks before the show everyone will meet their partner for the first time and from that point, each pair has the two weeks to come up with a 10-15minute workshop type performance piece. Both partners do not have to appear on stage - it's all about collaborating with someone new and we don't mind how that happens! We're not really thinking 'performance art' or crazy polished theatre performances but rather a collaboration that reflects the skills of both artists. For example, what would happen if we put a double bass player with a hairdresser? etc.
We're creating this show with the idea that it eventually becomes a quarterly event which in turn becomes a feature of the Auckland arts scene.
The first show will be at the Basement Theatre on Saturday the 28th of November. The meet and greet date is Friday the 13th of Novemeber
We are interested in talking with any skilled people from a broad range of disciplines... if you're keen we'll definitely consider you!
