Senior Dance Teacher / Youth Worker
BGI run junior and senior dance youth groups mainly for boys aged 5 to 17 but more recently for girls 9 – 19 . We are seeking an experienced Dance Teacher, who is also a Youth Worker and an awesome administrator and facilitator! We are willing to train a dancer teacher in the other skills.
BGI was established by young people from St. John’s Church in 1883. Our close and dynamic team members support each other to run a number of core programmes that sit along a ‘continuum of need’ from early intervention through to innovative youth leadership. This strengths-based model underscores our firm belief in the ability of young people to actively participate in healthy youth development.
This is a one year fixed term position (with hours from 20 to 40 per week depending on your range of skills and experience).
A primary focus will be on building relationship with and supporting approx 60 young people their families from a wide variety of backgrounds in our BGI Dance Project. The structured aspect of the programme is planning and facilitating after school and holiday dance programmes that are interesting, fun and welcoming for any young person in Wellington.
Other aspects of the role involve supporting other BGI mentoring programmes, helping run youth groups, youth events and performing administration tasks.
The successful candidate will be passionate about, and experienced in, working with this age group. They will hold or be currently or interested in studying towards recognised youth work and/or dance qualifications. They will also be well organised, and a good team player. Good remuneration for the right person.
