DANZ Emerging Dance Artists Programme 2011

Programme Overview

The Emerging Dance Artists programme (previously known as the DANZ Intern Programme) will be run in conjunction with the Essential Skills seminars. Together they are designed to 'bridge the gap' between tertiary study and/or assist current emerging dance artists towards a career in the industry. The goal of the programme is to equip emerging artists with real, tangible skills and networks that are essential for survival as a dance practitioner.

This programme provides:

- peer & mentor support

- career advice & goal setting

knowledge & development of skills in the business of arts through the Essential Skills Seminars

- current industry knowledge & networking

- a stepping stone into the industry

Admission requirements

This programme is open to all dance practitioners of any dance genre. A tertiary qualification is not required.

To be accepted into the programme participants must:

- be DANZ members

- attend at least five Essential Skills seminar's throughout 2011; (run on the same day and in the same venue as the Emerging Dance Artists

- show a demonstrated involvement and commitment to working in dance

Commitment required

Dates for programme - Part time from 16 March to 16 November 2011, an estimated of 30 hours as follows:

- Emerging Dance Artists programme - 3rd Wednesday each month, 9am to 10.15am

- Essential Skills seminars - 3rd Wednesday each month, 10.30am to 12.30pm

Venue

Emerging Dance Artists and Essential Skills seminars will be held on the ground floor meeting room of Auckland Trades Hall, 147 Great North Road, Grey Lynn. This meeting room has disability access. The DANZ office is on the top floor of this building.

Costs

Non DANZ members - $120 and $100 (students with ID). This covers DANZ membership for a year (a prerequisite for the programme) and registration for the Essential Skills seminars (usually $15 for members & $25 for non members per seminar. To join DANZ

DANZ members - $75

Attendance at a minimum of five Essential Skills seminars is a prerequisite for the Emerging Dance Artists programme however participants are encouraged to attend them all. The cost for the Essential Skills seminars is included so attendance at additional seminars is free of charge. This is a huge benefit to those accepted into the Emerging Dance Artists programme.
