Young performer host during production week
This October the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra is working with internationally renowned choreographer Royston Maldoom to produce a music and dance phenomenon.
With music performed live by the APO and conducted by Music Director Eckehard Stier, more than 150 young dancers from primary, secondary and tertiary institutions will perform to Stravisnky's The Rite of Spring. This project is a massive undertaking and top New Zealand choreographers Ann Dewey (Spinning Sun Dance Company), Moss Patterson (Atamira Dance Company) and Taiaroa Royal (Okareka Dance Company) are already working with students in school. Intensive rehearsals with Royston begin in September.
We are looking for volunteers to help with our production week in October 2011. Up to 200 children and young people will be coming together with the APO to rehearse. Volunteers will be an essential part of helping these rehearsals run smoothly. Volunteers will be working in pairs with a school group acting as the liaison between the artistic team and the teachers; making sure the students are ready to rehearse when needed, keeping them entertained when they're not needed on stage, and generally being the glue that keeps it all together. Whilst the pastoral care of the students remains the responsibility of the teachers, we will need you to keep communication flowing between the teachers and the artistic team.
The students are in four age groups; primary school, intermediate school, junior secondary school, and senior secondary school.
An enjoyment of the arts and working with young people would be really helpful. As we are expecting periods of downtime for the young performers a willingness to talk and play (either sports outside or games inside) with the students would be helpful.
Production week is Monday 10 - Friday 14 October, with the performance taking place on Friday night.
We need volunteers who are able to commit to at least one day (9:30 - 4:30) at either the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre (Monday 10 - Wednesday 12) or the Aotea Centre (Thursday 13 - Friday 14).
If you are keen to be involved, please email tash.pearce@gmail.com
