Fashion talents for series of creative promos
My name is Mardo El-Noor. I’m an art director by day, but I manage to create video projects in my own spare time, the latest of which was directing & designing a music clip for the band Opshop. I also have animated three short films, all of which were presented at NZ International Film Festival (2009, 2010, 2011) & many other festivals around the world. My aim for next year is to focus more on live-action (as opposed to animation) by collaborating with talents from the fashion industry in creating video promos, or ‘fashion’ short films.
The purpose of this ad is to find creative & highly motivated fashion designers & stylists (mainly) who are interested in showcasing their talents (with new or already existing material).
Often in the creative industry, there is a discrepancy between the challenges our daily jobs offer & what we aspire to create if we had the chance & resources. As a filmmaker, I’m interested in creating a collaborative platform where talented professionals pool resources with myself in producing video promos of high quality, artistic integrity & originality. Such promos would exhibit a huge creative freedom since they are not made to meet commercial demands or job briefs.
The promos will be a series of loose-narrative based, highly stylized, high quality short films. Stylistically, models & actors will be depicted in sequences of shots in tableaux vivants settings (rather than the conventional filmic reality-capture style).
The function of these promos, or ‘fashion’ short films, is to:
- Showcase the personal work of the involved creatives.
- Be pitched to arts & fashion-related agencies, funding bodies, etc.
- Become a valuable addition to the creatives’ portfolios.
- Be presented in new arenas (in the film & TV industry) which wouldn’t have been possible for your work as a fashion designer without the collaboration with a filmmaker.
In reality, such platform will be a mutual benefit for all involved since none of the creatives need to pay for any services, yet all are walking out of it with a final product of high quality that could have had a large price tag on to commercially produce. It is also a great medium to meet like-minded creatives should the opportunity for a paid project arise.
