Lyttelton Swap-O-Rama-Rama Volunteer Sign-up
The time has come…. Swap-O-Rama-Rama is near. 20th Feb at the Lyttelton Rec Centre on Winchester St. 11am-4pm. It’s the first time this event has come to NZ and we’re hoping it’s going to be big.
Here’s how it works:
Participants bring a bag of clothes (and $10) to get in the door. From there, volunteer sorters put the clothes into piles of like garments (getting first dibs, of course!) Then its swap to your heart’s content. There’s no limit on how much you can take.
But here’s the really good part.
Volunteers sewers will be at machines throughout the event to help people look at ways to re-purpose the clothes they find. Maybe the sleeves come off and become matching legwarmers. Maybe a dress becomes a skirt and top. Maybe trousers become shorts or a skirt….or a bag… The idea is to help people create unique garments and to be inspired to look at second hand clothes in a new, more creative way. There will also be screenprinting stations and the Felt Workshop Series.
This is a community event (all proceeds go to Project Lyttelton) so it depends on volunteers – people willing to share their skills to pull off a fantastic event in Lyttelton.
SO HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN DO!!!
Click the link below and sign yourself up for a job. We’ve broken the roster into one-hour shifts so you have plenty of time to scope the wares yourself. If you’re really into it, you might grab two or more shifts (and I will bow down and praise you for your legendary effort). All time can be clocked up with the Lyttelton Timebank and traded for stuff or help.
