The Drift Sessions is project with a difference.  The creation of an album of music taking a completely participatory approach and with the focus and aim of raising awareness and funds for Men's Mental Health.

The Project has launched a branding and logo competition.  If you area designer or someone with flair and ideas, who wants to be involved in this brilliant project for a fabulous cause, then submit your entry to this competition.  The winning brand and logo will be used on the project which is currently being publicised in NZ, Australia, UK and USA.

1.     What is the objective? Create a logo, look and feel for The Drift Sessions - a project that will see the creation of an album, building of awareness for Men’s wellness, and development of a model for future ‘Drift Sessions’.

Each ‘Drift Sessions’ after this initial project will have an outcome of an album created to raise awareness for a charitable cause using a participatory approach with fans and celebrity guest artists/musicians.  The elements involved in the model are:

-       Range of original songs/compositions created specifically for the album, of which the audience/fan base vote which 12 will make the final album.

-       An art competition for album cover art.

-       A music video created by or with the fans/audience

-       A live event to launch the album and raise funds for the charity. 

Who are we?

The Drift Sessions came about through Ryan’s connection with Drift Café which is also the location for the recording of this first Drift Sessions album. This project is a collaboration between people passionate about music and eager to help make a difference in the world of Men’s wellness

 The Drift Sessions brand is a very warm, accessible brand. Words that ‘fit’ what the Drift Sessions                 are: coastal, relaxed, salt of the earth – a brand that speaks truth openly and warmly.  It has evolved to be very coastal in its feel, but very different from ‘surfer’ beach brand, or golden sand’ beach – more the walk on the beach in all types of weather meeting old and new friends on the way kind of beach.

 

Who is your typical audience?

Cafe goers, wine consumers, acoustic music lovers, people who like ‘tactile and organic ’ as opposed to impersonalsynthetic and superficial.

 

What visual inspiration resonates with you and your music?

Flax, Cabbage Tree, sunsets, rugged sandy beach. Kapiti Island in silhouette

After the success of his first album New Zealand singer song writer Ryan Edwards has embarked on the creation of a second album but this time with a twist.  This project invites the participation of fans from around the world in the creation of the album, collaboration with well known musicians and artists, and aims to build awareness and support for Men’s Mental Health.

Aim of this Project?

  • Raise awareness (and funds) for Men’s Mental Health
  • Provide an opportunity for participation and collaboration (everyone and anyone can be a part of this in some way)
  • Opportunity to test an alternative way to creative music/album/art/video
  • Raise awareness and profile of Ryan and his music, and the partners that work with him. 
  • Opportunity for artists and creative professionals from New Zealand, Australia and UK to collaborate.

    My band '1k to the beach', along with special guests from the music and entertainment world will come together to create a collection of songs to help some people who - for any number of reasons - can't leave their worries in the carpark. The Drift Sessions - it's the music inspired by the beach, the inspirational Kapiti Island, and the fabulous Drift Cafe - and it's all in support of men's mental health.

    There will be lots of news, lots to tell you about, and loads of ways to get involved.
