Job description:

Graphic Designer – Story Inc

Story Inc creates visitor experiences throughout New Zealand and all over the world – museum exhibitions, visitor centres, expo pavilions, major public installations and so on.

Our projects are very diverse – from the inner workings of hydroelectric plants to the history of Thailand; from Maori creation stories to the theory of evolution.

Graphic design is a vital part of what we do. You will be working closely with 3d designers, image researchers, illustrators and content developers to create large numbers of big, striking, and often complicated graphic layouts for exhibitions. You’ll also be working in print, creating documents for pitching and explaining our concepts. And you’ll be responsible for updating our website.

Initially you will be working on existing projects under another graphic designer. Depending on your experience, for major projects we may continue to partner you with others. But we’ll also want you to have the confidence to step up and run with your own projects.

You will need to have:

  • A sense of style
  • At least 2-3 years industry experience
  • Graphic design degree
  • Strong typography skills
  • Good literacy and eye for detail
  • Ability to work quickly in Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
  • Strong Photoshop skills
  • Some experience in interactive design would be useful
  • Basic HTML/CSS for company website updates

More importantly, you need to be:

  • Positive and cheerful
  • Interested in the world
  • Good at collaborating closely with others
  • A good communicator
  • Patient
  • Hardworking
  • Strong enough to stand up for your ideas
  • Flexible enough to change them if you have to

Is that you?

Then we look forward to hearing from you. Please send us a letter, a CV, and a portfolio (less than 3MB) to James McLean story@storyinc.co.nz by Friday 6 August.
