Call for proposals - Te Aro Park mural
Wellington City Council is calling for artist proposals for a new mural in Te Aro Park, Courtenay Place. The mural will be on the public toilets.
We’re looking for exciting proposals that respond to the history and current use of Te Aro Park as well as the architecture and existing artwork in the park.
Te Aro Park is a site of historical significance, being part of Te Aro Kainga established in 1824 by Ngati Mutunga. Te Aro Park is a busy thoroughfare, with constant foot traffic and buses stopping nearby. It is also surrounded by cafés and shops and sits directly across the road from the historic Opera House.
The site will provide a challenge to artists. It has diverse architecture, a large pohutukawa and an existing artwork created by artist Shona Rapira Davies in 1988.
The mural is to be completed during May/June in preparation for the Rugby World Cup 2011 (RWC 2011).
