We are seeking a Project Technician to work in the Pictures Online project until March 2011.

You will be responsible for digitisation of photographic materials from the Alexander Turnbull Library.

The successful candidate will report to the Team Leader – Pictures Online Project and will ideally have the following skills and experience:

  • A high level of expertise in digital imaging technologies and proficiency in using applications especially Photoshop
  • An understanding of safe handling techniques for the protection of documentary heritage collection materials
  • An understanding of descriptive or cataloguing database systems
  • Tertiary qualification in librarianship or photography, design, graphics or related areas or recognised industry experience.

This will include:

  • Handling photographic negatives (film and glass) preparing them for the digitisation process including retrieval from storage and return
  • Copying original collection items from the Alexander Turnbull Library collections using digital copying technologies
  • Processing digital images to a high level of quality and accuracy
  • Using the Digital Archive image management system to manage digital collection storage and access.
  • Entering brief descriptive records for digitised images using the Library’s TAPUHI system.

Training will be provided in the use of specific equipment and software and in the general project procedures.
