AUCKLAND FESTIVAL TRUST

 Position:                      Publicity Assistant (fixed-term position)

Reporting to:              Senior Publicist

 The principal objective is to work with the Festival’s Senior Publicist (Rachel Lorimer) to maximise publicity for the 2011 Auckland Arts Festival (to be held 2 – 20 March).

 Responsibilities will include:-

  • The sourcing, editing and production of publicity materials as directed by the Senior Publicist: these may include media releases, background information, images and video footage
  • The distribution of publicity materials as directed by the Senior Publicist
  • Assisting the Senior Publicist in maintaining the overall Festival publicity schedule
  • Developing and executing a strategy for selected Festival shows, in consultation with the Senior Publicist
  • Developing and executing a radio strategy for the Festival, in consultation with the Senior Publicist, including interviews, ticket giveaways and other promotional avenues
  • Developing and executing a regional media strategy for the Festival, in consultation with the Senior Publicist
  • Working with the Senior Publicist and the Marketing Intern to maximise online promotional and publicity opportunities
  • Liaising with the Festival marketing team, and other Festival staff as required
  • Ensuring Festival media partner contracts are adhered to
  • Liaising with Festival artists and producers, and media to organise interviews and photo shoots
  • Attending interviews and photo shoots as required
  • Maintaining the Festival media archive
  • Providing information for monthly Festival Board meeting reports
  • Providing a post-Festival publicity report on your areas of responsibility by the end date of this agreement
  • Working on the POSE events scheduling software to keep the Festival PR schedule up-to-date
  • Other duties as required.

 Key skills

The successful candidate will have excellent writing skills, and the ability to write concisely and accurately.  Proven high level communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work in a deadline-driven, high pressure environment, and form strong relationships with media, producers and artists.  You will be computer literate, and possess excellent attention to detail as well as high levels of organisation. 

 Experience in publicity, communications or journalism, or a relevant tertiary qualification is preferred.

 FIXED TERM

This role is envisaged to begin late October or early November and will finish end March 2011.  It could be part time in November and December (negotiable).
