Set Design and Construction Mentor
BACKGROUND
Every year Young and Hungry runs the Festival of New Theatre, which is comprised of three new New Zealand scripts written specifically for youth audiences.
The Festival is performed and designed by 15-25 year olds in a two-week season at BATS Theatre, with each of the three productions being performed every night.
Professional theatre practitioners are contracted by the Trust to mentor these young people in all facets of the Festival’s production, including: acting, lighting, sound, costumes, set, and stage management.
The rehearsal and design process runs over eight weeks to ensure that enough time is given to both the actors' development of their characters and the technical students' realization of their design.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Set Design Mentor is responsible for training Set Design Mentees in, and ensuring the professional delivery of, all aspects of Set Design for each of the three Festival productions.
The Set Design Mentor will provide ongoing support and guidance to assist Mentees in achieving their greatest potential, while fulfilling the set design and construction needs of the Festival.
