Job description:

The New Zealand International Arts Festival is looking for a brilliant and energetic media communications professional to join the team for the 2012 Festival.

Supported by the Marketing and Development Manager, the Media Communications Adviser is a key role in the Festival’s new Marketing team.  This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional to use their full range of abilities and develop existing skills.

The New Zealand International Arts Festival is a biennial multi-arts festival held in Wellington. It is New Zealand's premier cultural event and celebrates the very best arts entertainment from around the world and within New Zealand.

 Key Competencies

  • Excellent existing relationships with the national and regional print, broadcast and electronic media, ideally including arts editors and journalists
  • A proven track-record for achieving positive and extensive media coverage
  • Outstanding communication and relationship management skills
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofing skills
  • Great organizational and administrative abilities to manage multiple and complex tasks to conflicting deadlines
  • A collaborative working style and hands-on work ethic
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to think creatively and strategically
  • Relevant industry experience would be helpful, especially liaising with creatives
  • Good understanding of the operations and importance of online media outlets, blogging sites and social media platforms would be helpful  – or the desire to broaden experience in these spaces with direction and support from an experienced Manager

A proactive liaison position, you will work with all Festival artists and media, coordinate media hosting, as well as working closely with the Festival’s Media Partners on key projects.

Based in Wellington, this position sits within a small core team which will grow significantly during the Festival.  Due to the nature of the Festival a flexible approach to working hours is essential – but there will be excellent additional support for this role from two Media Communications Assistants and from the Marketing and Development Manager.

A fixed-term contract from June 2011 – April 2012, this is a great contract position to see you through well into the New Year and provide you with an opportunity to develop your skills, particularly in the arts and not-for-profit sector and in the new media space.
