Judge Selected for REAL NZ ART 2011 @Whanganui Federal Art Gallery
29 August, 2011
The Real New Zealand Art Exhibiton is pleased to announce the judge for the 2011 exhibition at the Federal Hotel Gallery, opening Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 5:30pm in Whanganui.
Bill Milbank, formerly Director of the Sarjeant Gallery and now owner of the WHMilbank Gallery in Whanganui, has agreed to jury the exhibition which will run through October 8, 2011. Mr. Milbank’s Gallery currently hosts an extensive collection of the work of New Zealand artist Phillip Trustum. We are very pleased to have such a high profile curator with knowledge of the entire New Zealand art scene awarding the prizes for this exhibition.
The judge will select a number of cash prizes gleaned through the Real Wanganui Festival (www.realwhanganui.co.nz), which is part of the Real New Zealand Festival, which begins 9 September and continues through 23 October. The Federal Exhibition is for both current Quay School of Art students and Quay School Alumni. An Alumni Award sponsored by Gordan Harris Art Supplies in Wellington will be given to an Alumnus from the Wellington Region. Ochre Art Supplies in Whanganui will give an award to a currently enrolled student at the Quay School with a Printmaking or Painting submission to the exhibition.
Artists are permitted one submission which will be an easy call for Alumni as they are generally working in one or two major areas of art making once they leave the Quay School with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in one media area. However, Year 1 students are still actively involved in all of the schools five media areas: glass, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. Year 2 students work in two media areas as well as drawing, however, in Year 3 students elect a major in which to concentrate.
Any alumni of the Quay School of Art, Whanganui UCOL (formerly Wanganui Regional Community Polytechnic) who wish to be included in this exhibition may contact Rita Dibert, exhibition coordinator for details at r.dibert@ucol.ac.nz .
