Job description:

Yo!

I need someone with sound kit/boom experience to man a Fostex sound mixer for me from 7 to 7 on Monday the 21st of November! They will be part of a small crew scouring Cuba Street for filming opportunities. As I am a poor student this is not a paid opportunity BUT you will get your (reasonably priced) lunch shouted for you and of course equipment will be provided. The crew is tight-knit, friendly and onto it and I can guarantee that you'll have fun!

This project is called "Lines" and it is an experimental short 'documentary' that has been in the works for the past few months. There are three themes I'm trying to explore here - knowledge, communication and empathy, especially in regards to age and the age divide. The experiment here is in the process: myself and a few others spent four weekends in different public areas of the Wellington metro seeking volunteers in the age groups of 18-25 and 50+. These volunteers were asked to give, completely out of context, a line or quote from the most important conversation they'd had in their lives. We had fantastic input from the Wellington public and ended up with a grand total of 481 eligible quotes.

After paring these down to 80 - 40 from the 18-25s and 40 from the 50+s - we are ready for the production phase. This will again be spontaneous, and will rely on the input of interested members of the public. People from each age group will be given a randomly selected quote from the OTHER age group; they will read that quote into camera. In this way I feel like we are 'forcing empathy' between groups that have increasingly age-defined communication difficulties. People are put into anothers' shoes for a brief moment.

We are shooting over four days in November, although I am only looking for someone to make a commitment on Monday the 21st. If you are interested PLEASE let me know as soon as possible - you can contact me at slaytonbourdon@gmail.com for more information.

Cheers
