News Video Research is the media library for TVNZ’s News and Current Affairs (NCA) department. We are responsible for ensuring that audiovisual material generated by NCA is preserved and made accessible for future use. We also provide moving images and related information research for the daily news bulletins, weekly current affairs programmes and non-news programmes.
We are seeking a full-time Librarian to join our Auckland team based in the TVNZ newsroom. You will be responsible for creating detailed catalogue records, selecting, editing and cataloguing raw footage for our stock footage collection and providing video footage research for a variety of users – often to very tight deadlines. Organisational skills, experience using library databases and an interest in digital archiving are crucial to this position. A keen interest in current events and New Zealand history is also essential.
Key requirements for the role:
- A library qualification or at least two years relevant experience
- Experience creating detailed document descriptions/database records
- Superior written communication skills and a very high level of accuracy in all written work
- A strong understanding of information technology and active interest in digital archiving
- Demonstrated ability conducting reference interviews
- Strong customer service skills
- Experience working to tight deadlines and performing effectively under pressure
- Ability to prioritise and manage multiple demands
- Extensive general knowledge and interest in news and current events and New Zealand history
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as required
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work with a wide range of people – often in high pressure situations
- Ability to work independently and manage workflow
- The ability to think creatively and contribute to the development of library systems and the illustration of news stories
- Flexibility and the ability to think laterally.
