Actors required for period short film

“The Puzzle” is a  period/fantasy/thriller 15 minute short film set in Highwic House in 1880. We are looking for suitable actors. I am at this moment pulling together a top rate crew. The DOP is Karl Schodt http://www.newzealandcameraman.co.nz/

This is a low budget film and accordingly there is no pay. A $50.00 per day (on set) allowance is made to actors and crew to cover transport etc etc. Food will be provided on set. We will provide a DVD of the film for your show reel.

The Puzzle will be filmed at Highwic House in Gillies Ave Auckland. It is a stunning location. We have an excellent script and will have striking 19th century costumes. This film will be made with our sights clearly set on achieving recognition at the New Zealand and international film festivals.

The Puzzle

“The Puzzle” is a 15 minute short film. A period/fantasy/thriller that tells the story of Emma Redman, a 29 year old architect who has a fascination with jigsaw puzzles. She is placing the last few pieces into the puzzle of an 1860’s gothic home called “Highwic” and as the last piece (but one) is placed into the puzzle she is sucked inside the home in the picture she was trying to finish. Emma is wearing 1880’s attire. The windows and doors are locked she is unable to escape the house.   Josh is a 32 year old marketing manager who was sucked into the house 4 days previously.  They have to find the missing piece of the puzzle in order to escape the house. There is however only one piece.

Filming dates – We will be filming at Highwic House in Gillies Ave. Auckland from 24th April for 1 week

 Characters

There are 5 characters

Emma Redman late 20s early 30’s

This is a reputation maker for the right person. It is a huge role.  We need a star.  We will look at experienced actresses only. We expect this to be a sought after role. There is only one scene Emma is not in. The ability to speak with an English accent will be an advantage.

Emma is a perfectionist, but she also suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.  She leads an orderly life. Once inside the house Emma is frightened and confused. Highwic House is orderly, but her life within it is not.  Emma will be required for 7 day (from 24th April) plus two weekends for rehearsals

Josh mid 30’s.

Josh is an integral part of 13 scenes. He is a bit of a conman. He fancies Emma but he needs to find the missing puzzle piece and get out of this house before Emma does. Required for four to five days on set plus two weekends for rehearsals.

Evelyn Redman 50’s plus

Evelyn Redman is Emma’s mother. Dressed in her nightgown she has a big scene at the end of the film. This scene is set in 2010  One day on set only required plus rehearsal

Miss Grace (The Maid)

Miss Grace is in her late 40’s or early 50’s. A  real grandmotherly type. She may be overweight. She has known Emma since she was 5. She has a soft spot for Emma but hasn’t seen her for years. Set in 1880. One day on set only required plus rehearsal

 Paula. 30ish

Paula is Emma’s best friend. Only seen on screen at the end of the film. Her character set in 2010.  One day on set only required plus rehearsal.

Auditions will be held at 16-18 Mackelvie St Grey Lynn from Thursday 18th March till Tuesday 24 March by appointment only.

We are also looking for an experienced sound person for the shoot plus, makeup expert, wardrobe mistress (min hours required) and a 1st AD
