Synopsis
George and Bonnie, a married couple with no children, have forgotten how to communicate. They leave messages for each other in the boxes of the crossword puzzles that they love to do. One evening, matters come to a head over a game of Scrabble, and George and Bonnie must find it in themselves to finally be honest with each other, and say the words that the other needs to hear.
Character Bios
GEORGE, 42 – Lead
A mild-mannered intellectual, George has always taken pride in his expert grasp of the English language. Currently a professor of English Literature at the local University, he busies himself with his work and research. Perhaps his focus on work is an excuse for not facing up to his marriage that is turning dry, but this is something he’ll never admit to himself. George still loves his wife, but he doesn’t know what to do to rekindle those romantic sparks that are only a distant memory now.
BONNIE, 40 – Lead
Bonnie is a perfectionist, a romantic, an idealist. She loves fostering good friendships, making and receiving thoughtful gifts, and knowing that she is noticed and appreciated. As a primary school English teacher, she takes great pride in knowing that she’s made a difference in her students’ lives. She misses the intellectual debates that she used to have with George, and fears that she may have gotten too boring for him. She’s been dropping hints hoping that George will pick up on how she feels, but it seems that he’s too involved with himself to notice. Sometimes she just wishes she knew how to reach out to him…
