Organisation/person name:
Hamburg Animation Awards
Work type:
Permanent: Full-Time
Work classification:
Animation
Job description:

Entries for the 2011 Hamburg Animation Award are now invited. Auckland students and recent alumni (within three years of graduating) are encouraged to submit their work in Germany’s prestigious international film competition for creative newcomer talents in animated design.

The competition offers great opportunities to profile Auckland's animation sector talent and potential as well as 11,000 Euros in prize money and a workshop with a leading animation expert in Hamburg.

Aucklanders have submitted over 60 fantastic entries to the competition in the past three years. In 2008, due to Auckland's strategic alliance with Hamburg, New Zealand was selected as the awards ‘profile’ country and the two Auckland winners travelled to Hamburg to collect their prize money. In 2009, Time to Fly, an animated short film by Auckland's Media Design School students, was awarded third place, winning 2,000 Euros prize money and a seminar attendance with ‘Ice Age 3’ co-director Mike Thurmeier. In 2010, one fifth of all entries submitted in the competition were from Auckland with Hellspital being nominated for the audience award.

Auckland Council is proud to facilitate opportunities for the creative sector through our strategic alliance with Hamburg, formed in 2007 by the former Auckland City Council. We continue to promote the Hamburg Animation Award in Auckland and will update you on further screening opportunities for the 2011 Auckland entries.
