Te Karere, TVNZ’s Maori news programme is seeking two permanent part-time Translator/Subtitlers, each person working three days each week, four hours each day in the afternoons. (These roles are Monday to Friday – no weekend work involved).

We want innovative self-starters who can translate Te Karere from Maori to English and to produce excellent quality live and offline captions within deadline.

Amongst other key attributes the successful applicants will have proven abilities to:

  • produce captions that are translated and edited to an excellent standard, with correct grammar and punctuation;
  • work effectively and constructively in a team;
  • have an excellent working knowledge of the Maori and English languages;
  • fast touch-type with a well-honed attention to detail and sense of accuracy;
  • have a sound general knowledge, interest in current affairs and Maori culture;
  • work well under pressure;
  • have a good level of computer literacy.
