Instrumentalists for Musical Theatre

Organisation/person name:
Porirua Little Theatre, Wellington
Work type:
Contract
Work classification:
Music
Job description:

I have just started rehearsals with an excellent cast at Porirua Little Theatre (http://porirualittletheatre.co.nz/) for their next musical and am looking for experienced and proficient players of flute, trumpet, trombone and drumkit who would like to be involved.

PLT is an amateur organisation and no payment for the band is offered. It is usual however for 'petrol money' and complementary seats for a performance to be allocated to players.

The show is 'Curtains' by Kander and Ebbs - the same team as created Cabaret, Chicago and Kiss of the Spider Woman. The show has never before been performed in NZ.

The most salient thing I guess is the performance dates, because if you are not available for these then the rest (synopsis, conditions, rehearsals) don't really apply, do they!

Definite dates

Dress Rehearsals:
Easter Monday 5 April 2pm run / shared dinner, 8pm run.

Performances:
Wed, Thurs, Fri, and Saturday for four weeks in April 2010
ie:
April 7, 8, 9, 10
April 14,15,16,17
April 21,22,23,24
April 28, 29, 30 and May 1.

Rehearsals:

These are more flexible and may be negotiated with band
members to maximise their usefulness.

First run:
Sunday 28 February 12:30 - 6pm
Sunday 14 March 12:30 - 6pm
Sunday 21 March 12:30 - 6pm (second half with cast singing.

Runs with cast (unless we need more band-only time?)
Tuesday 30 March 7:15 - 9:45
Thursday 1 April 7:15 - 9:45

So - if that is all sounding OK and you are still interested  - a little about the musical.

The music is well orchestrated and engaing - very much of the same 'ilk' as Cabaret but with more of a 'Oklahoma' feel to it. It is set  in a Theatre in which a Wild West musical version of Robin Hood is having a disastrous debut. The leading lady drops dead after the curtain call - murdered. The detective forbids anyone leaving. Two more people die, but he is more  interested in saving the show. Love, romance, mayhem.... good music and lyrics ... singing, dancing and dialogue....

If you can help out with the band, please contact me ASAP
