Job description: 

Southern Institute of Technology has a vacancy in the Faculty of New Media, Arts and Business for a full-time permanent music tutor.

 

You will have a relevant degree qualification, preferably at postgraduate level (or the willingness to undertake study towards this), the ability to communicate well with students and display the following attributes:

 

  • Mastery of music theory, including chords, scales, modes and arpeggio to level 7 on guitar.
  • Ability to read, on sight, music notation for bass and guitar to level 7.
  • Knowledge and background required to teach on the history of popular music
  • Arranging and transcription skills in contemporary music, including piano and vocal.
  • A familiarity with computers and musical software, instrument tuning and maintenance, amplifier operation, stage setting and an appreciation of acoustics.
  • A knowledge of world music perspectives, music technology, music business, composition, songwriting, research and statistics
  • Familiarity with recording techniques and studio functions
  • Familiarity in music production and knowledge of entertainment/music industry law
