Open Audition

YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN

 Sunday 4th July 2pm – 5pm, Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School, 11 Hutchison Rd, Newtown.

A musical comedy with music and lyrics by Clark Gesner, based on the characters created by Charles M. Schulz in his comic strip 'Peanuts', performing 31 August - 2 September.

This production is part of the Masters of Theatre Arts Programme (Toi Whakaari/ Victoria University) and will be an excerpt from the musical, directed by Theresa Hanaray.

Please prepare two contrasting songs (one ballad, one up-tempo) and bring the sheet music with you in an appropriate key. An accompanist will be provided for you. (Please do not audition with any material from the show).

After singing auditions, you will be asked to read a monologue of your choice from the following characters: Charlie Brown, Lucy, Sally, Linus, Snoopy and Schroeder. Please contact the producer for a copy of the monologue.

Performances dates are 31 August - 2 September. Part time rehearsals will take place from Monday 9 August to Monday 30 August in accordance with availability. Please come prepared with potential rehearsal conflict dates.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS: [NB: All characters are aged between five and six]

CHARLIE BROWN(Baritone/Tenor)
Philosophical in a pessimistic way. Low self-esteem, lacks initiative.Views himself as the under-dog.
Strong singer/actor.

LUCY VAN PELT: (Mezzo/Alto Belt; Vocal range:  G below the staff to F sharp above middle C.) Linus’s older sister. Bossy, overbearing and shouts a lot. Innocent-seeming but harsh.
Strong singer/actor.

SALLY BROWN: (Soprano/Mezzo Belt; Vocal range: A below the staff to B flat above middle C.)
Charlie Brown's little sister. Cute, bubbly, fun and honest. Practical.
Strong singer/dancer/actor.

SNOOPY: (Tenor/Baritone; Vocal range: A below the staff to second D above middle C.)
Charlie Brown's dog. Lives inside his head in his active imagination, energetic.
Strong singer/dancer/comic skills.

SCHROEDER: (High Baritone/Tenor; Vocal range:  A below the staff to A flat above middle C. )
Lucy's love interest. A sensitive musician, hardly separated from his piano, focused on practising and learning his music.
Strong singer/actor.

LINUS: (Baritone/Tenor; Vocal range:  A below the staff to F sharp above middle C.)
Lucy's little brother. Philosophical, sensitive, obsessive about his blanket. Imaginative.
