Sculpture Intern Volunteer Position
This is a great opportunity for someone studying arts or with an arts background particularly in sculpture to be involved in all aspects of organising a sculpture exhibition.
You will have the opportunity to learn a lot about the process of organising an exhibition of sculpture, develop your skills and expertise and work with a small, friendly, committed team at Kaipara Coast Sculpture Gardens. You will also meet many interesting and dedicated people.
Administration functions including: assisting with documenting the sculptures; collating information for the catalogue; design and production of the catalogue and invitations and tickets to the exhibition opening; promotion of the event.
Hands on work assisting with the removal and installation of sculptures. This will involve digging footings, preparing cement, lifting, general helping out, installing signs, tidying the grounds etc
Assisting with the opening of Exhibition 2012 on 19th November 2011, setting up, liaising with and coordinating entertainers and artist talks, assisting and photographing guests at the opening.
The position requires someone with fluent English, good oral and written communication skills, and a lot of initiative, solid experience with Word, Excel, Outlook, internet, creativity, planning, time management, ability to prioritise and multi task and attention to detail, fit and healthy, able to dig footings, gardening skills, simple maintenance skills, practical experience with tools eg electric drill, driver’s license
The role is for someone who is very practical with the ability to take on diverse physical tasks, has initiative, a wide general knowledge, a strong interest in art and particularly sculpture who can work well independently and also under the guidance of the curator, Sally Lush, and Sculpture Garden owner, David Bayly.
We will provide a written reference at the completion of your time with us detailing activities undertaken for you to use to gain future opportunities and employment.
This is a part time unpaid (Assistance will be given for travel expenses) position over a 5 week period from 15th October 2011. The majority of the work will be over the installation period 20th to 31stOctober and the opening Sat 19th November (Approx 90 hours) and is located at Kaipara Coast Sculpture Gardens 1481 Kaipara Coast Highway SH 16 4 km north of Kaukapakapa.

Kaipara Coast Sculpture Gardens
A tranquil, peaceful oasis set in gardens on a rural property looking out to the Kaipara Harbour. It features 60 selected contemporary sculptures, created by established and emerging New Zealand artists.
The sculpture gardens have been developed in conjunction with Kaipara Coast Plant Centre which has been owned and operated by David Bayly from this site since 1988. The site was developed so that visitors to the gardens can stroll along the sculpture trail and find inspiration for selecting sculptures and plants to enhance their gardens and property while enjoying great views of the rural setting.
The sculpture gardens are only a 35 minute drive from Auckland on the scenic SH 16 route,just 4 km north of Kaukapakapa, making it readily accessible to a large public and to potential clients.
