Costumed Historical Guide
The Howick Historical Village (in Pakuranga) is looking for a part time Historical Guide to cover –
Monday to Thursday weekly, 4.25 hours per day with a half hour lunch break
ie 15 hours per week on a paid basis).
This costumed and ‘in character’ position has an immediate start date, reports to the General Manager, and the following qualities and skills are sought –
- Enthusiasm and confidence to speak to individuals and groups.
- Ability to actively encourage interaction with visitors.
- Participation in special events and providing a customer focused service for visitors.
- Good general knowledge.
- Have a good command of the English language.
- A passion for our Fencible story and NZ history (full training will be given)
- Have a welcoming and cheerful presence at all times.
- Attend to scheduled in-depth guided tours as well as ‘on demand’ tours
- May also be required to work occasional weekend Saturdays or Sundays.

The Howick Historical Village is situated in Bells Road (Lloyd Elsmore Park), Pakuranga, Auckland. It as an open air museum with 30 + heritage buildings and a focus on Living History - we cook on open fires, engage in Victorian crafts and pastimes and wear period costume.

- Howick Historical Village
Howick Historical Village is an open air museum with 30 heritage buildings furnished with decor and displays highlighting the fencible period of 1840-1880. Costumed villagers are present on Live Days (every third Sunday of the month) and engage in Victorian crafts and pastimes.
Museum staff care for the artefacts which have been donated by the community and range from fabulous Victorian clothing, to military campaign desks with a focus on authentic domestic items. An archive, library and art collection can be researched by appointment. www.fencible.org.nz
