Lecturer/Senior Lecturer
LECTURER / SENIOR LECTURER in DESIGN & CREATIVE TECHNOLOGIES,
Permanent, Full-time position
The Interdisciplinary Unit in the Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies invites applications for a full-time academic position at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level.
The Unit was created in 2007 to develop new inter- and trans-disciplinary research and teaching initiatives across the breadth of disciplines that make up this diverse Faculty (Art & Design, Computing & Mathematical Sciences, Communications & Media, and Engineering).
The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the new Bachelor of Creative Technologies and Master of Creative Technologies programmes. These forward-thinking, research-led programmes are designed to provide a broad, relevant and exciting education and to shape the creative industries of the future. The studio-based, project-organised curriculum encourages students to identify contemporary research issues and new ways of generating original outcomes that will allow them to simultaneously imagine, construct and navigate our changing world. The integration of research, theory and practice is a pronounced characteristic of the student-centred experience.
The appointee will also be expected to; establish and develop their own research projects; offer post-graduate supervision; develop collaborative linkages with other faculty members, research groups, industry and external stakeholders, and; be actively involved in the ongoing development of the Unit. Experience or ability to operate in a dynamic, immersive learning environment such as a design-studio or multi-media lab is highly desirable.
Applications are invited from people who have a relevant post-graduate degree, (preferably a PhD or equivalent professional experience) and who can demonstrate expertise, curiosity and enthusiasm for creative ideas, communication and new technologies. Candidates may have backgrounds in any of the Unit’s broad areas of
interest, but we especially welcome those with theoretical and practical knowledge of social/physical computing, experience design, performative/responsive environments, or sound art/engineering.
The Interdisciplinary Unit seeks to build a diverse scholarly community and strongly encourages applications from people of all backgrounds, cultures and experiences.
