The North Otago Museum is a small, yet highly professional organisation in the historic town of Oamaru. The town is located in the beautiful Waitaki District with its unique braided river, geological features and rare examples of Māori rock art. Oamaru is recognized nationally for its celebration of Victorian heritage and remarkable limestone architecture. Pride of place in the Museum’s collection is the Willetts’ Collection of Waitaha taonga. The museum provides the hub for the Waitaki District’s cultural and heritage aspirations.
The purpose of this role is to care for and provide access to the Museum’s collections; to curate, design and install permanent and temporary exhibitions, and to assist the Director with the smooth day-to-day operation of the North Otago Museum. This involves working closely with the Curator of Archives, the Museum Activity Officers, the Projects Team and the Volunteer Team.
You will have a skill-set that includes:
- collection management knowledge and practical experience
- graphic design experience
- practical design and build skills including object mounting
- proven exhibition success
- robust research skills
- project management experience
- an open and honest communication style
