Special Collections Librarian or Archivist

Sole charge position, you must be able to work with and manage volunteers, prioritize workload and enjoy working with heritage collections.

We are looking for someone with a library degree and an interest in archival or photographic collections or an archivist willing to also manage a small library.

 You will set up systems, facilitate public access, answer public enquiries, care for the collection and process archive collections according archive principals.

 Pay scale $22 per hour

One morning per week 9am -1 pm (flexibility over hours but preference to either Tuesday, Thursday or Friday as a set working day)

 Preferred

  • library qualification or museum studies degree or 3 +years experience in relevant field
  • comfortable with computers / databases and scanning

    Howick Historical Village

    Howick Historical Village is an open air museum with 30 heritage buildings furnished with decor and displays highlighting the fencible period of 1840-1880. Costumed villagers are present on Live Days (every third Sunday of the month) and engage in Victorian crafts and pastimes.
    Museum staff care for the artefacts which have been donated by the community and range from fabulous Victorian clothing, to military campaign desks with a focus on authentic domestic items. An archive, library and art collection can be researched by appointment. www.fencible.org.nz
