The play is created by you meeting with a few other (carefully selected) people (at a selected location downtown Auckland) and writing down what you say, do or think as you say, do or think them. You can say, do or think of course, what ever you want and the play is constructed in that very moment of your collective meeting. I take what you have written (along with everyone else's) and try to piece together an order of what happened.

Then on opening night (the play only runs for one night) I project a copy of this script up for the audience to read as well as have copies of the script to pick up and read by you and any of the others who decide to turn up. I explain the rules of the play to the audience and  as the projectionist I will choose whether I will repeat the script and if so how many times.

I am interested in the way we communicate with each other, the words and ways we actually do this, and what the idea of performing does to this activity.

I have performed 9 different versions of this play with over 27 performances since 1999, where it was first reviewed by The National Business Review as "an insult to the fundamentals of theater". Of which I am extremely proud to have done, for I wish to completely rearrange aspects of traditional theater to take the form further and not just repeat the same Platonic ideas.

This time promises to be the plays biggest and broadest audience reach yet with The Edge, Aotea Center Auckland Creating a New Performance Festival and actively promoting the play. See attached image for the plays Marketing.

Each show is framed with a theme for the audiences sake. This time I have been working with this idea:

"Politics being a giant reality tv show don't you think we need a theater that shows us this. A view of all this crap and the way it's wiped up into medieval crusades with the same manufactured evils as the last war and the war before
that, you can't win against your self, unless you fund both sides of the debate.
Oh war, are you just the earths cosmic burp,
and if war starts with a word, then let’s examine what we say to one another."

I realize this is probably just a lot of confusing ideas, so let me stress the idea that basically I intend to get a range of voices from the "alternative" news/media/activists sector and get them to write down what they say when they meet each other so that we can examine the way we say things as much as what we say. Once the words you write are written down, you have the CHOICE of performing them or not... you could send someone else to perform them or a dog, Whatever...

The Show will be on the 17th of February, at 9pm. There will be a $10 ticket price. You are completely free to perform your role in any way you choose and even able to not turn up, as your words will be projected for the audience to read.
