SCAPE 2010 visitor hosts – recruiting 4 positions
SCAPE 2010 is recruiting 4 Visitor Hosts to serve as the primary interface and interpretation for SCAPE’s Temporary and Permanent artworks to visitors. The ideal applicant will have experience in the cultural sector, good customer service skills and a personable, friendly demeanor.
Fixed Term Part-time: 13 September – 12 November
Hours:
- 13 September – 23 September - 10 hours per week (part-time training, familiarization and setting up event booking systems)
- From 23 September – 7 November:
- During SCAPE - 10 -12 hours per week to be discussed and confirmed at a variation of rostered hours of 10 am – 4pm Monday to Sunday. On occasion visitor hosts will be required to work during evenings for example the opening weekend (23-26 September) and to conduct night tours.
- 8-12 November - 10-12 hours per week pack down of hub
Fee: $18 per hour
Group: Art & Industry Biennial Trust Board
Responsible to: Education & Public Programme Coordinator
Relationships: Visitors; Other SCAPE Visitor Hosts; Public Art Project Manager, Security, Functions and Event staff; Director, Art Project Agents (volunteers) and other SCAPE staff.
Primary Purposes:The SCAPE Visitor Host provides the primary interface and interpretation for SCAPE’s Temporary and Permanent artworks to visitors.
Description of work:
Key duties of the SCAPE Visitor Host during the period of employment for the SCAPE 2010 Christchurch Biennial of Art in Public Space will include the following:
- Provide information on SCAPE 2010 including site guides, maps and details of all art projects to SCAPE Hub visitors
- Promote and participate in the sale of catalogues and other SCAPE 2010 merchandise
- Liaising with SCAPE visitors including hosting and assisting public tours, assisting with the running and operation of the public programme
- Providing a professional and informed point of contact for SCAPE visitors
- Office administration including cash handling, filing, photocopying, answering phones and receiving deliveries
- On site invigilation including the ability to talk to visitors about the artworks on display
- Maximise the visitor experience of the SCAPE by providing excellent customer service and assistance with directions
- Provide insight and information on temporary and permanent artworks along the Public Art Walkway
- Work within the Visitor Host team members and other staffs as required to ensure a high standard of the SCAPE experience is consistently delivered
- Promotion of SCAPE publications, workshops, seminars, and talks
- Confirming attendance numbers at various events
- Promote SCAPE artworks and Public Art Walkway
- Managing Art Project Agents (volunteers) whilst at the SCAPE 2010 Hub
Qualifications, Experience and Skills sought:
- Previous experience working in the cultural, art, or heritage sectors; hospitality; tourism; or other customer service environment
- Demonstrated commitment to delivering a high standard of customer service
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully as part of a team environment, and to interact with a diverse range of people
- Good level of verbal communication skills demonstrated by the ability to listen, question and give relevant, accurate information
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of SCAPE Biennial
- Commitment to continuous improvements of SCAPE 2010 directives and profile
Desirable:
- Knowledge of health & safety and security methods and standards, with the ability to apply that knowledge. Current First Aid qualification. Knowledge and ability to speak or sign another language
- Managing small groups of volunteers
