Volunteer Gallery Guides
Uxbridge Creative Arts Centre is a non-profit organisation located in Howick, East Auckland. Under the umbrella of our centre we have the Malcolm Smith Gallery, which is a multi-purpose space used for performances, events, as well as exhibitions throughout the year. Our exhibition programme is especially varied, ranging from our annual Estuary Artworks Competition to a small sculptures exhibition, as well as curated thematic exhibitions.
We are in need of enthusiastic and personable Gallery Guides to welcome visitors and be on-hand to discuss exhibitions. The Gallery Guide positions are voluntary, however Uxbridge is a great place to get experience in the art scene if you are interested in being involved in this industry and we are more than happy to provide references for our wonderful Guides.
To be a Gallery Guide it would be great if you were passionate about art, or simply eager to get involved with the arts and enjoy meeting and talking to people. The hours you volunteer are completely up to you – the Centre is open Monday – Friday 9am – 4pm, and Saturday 9.30am – 2pm. Coming up we have our annual Estuary Artworks Competition, and we would love to have Guides in the gallery to discuss works in the exhibition, give tours, assist visitors with our interactive elements, help with public programmes, and most of all welcome our visitors. As part of this exhibition we will have a Gallery Guide Evening where the curator will talk to you about the exhibition so you can feel educated and knowledgeable about what is on the walls, and it will also be an opportunity to meet your fellow Guides!
Please contact the Uxbridge curator, Sophie Keyse, (exhibitions@uxbridge.org.nz or 09 535 6467) if you are interested in becoming a Gallery Guide at Uxbridge Creative Centre.
