Massey University, in conjunction with Palmerston North City Council and Palmerston North Community Arts Council (Square Edge), invites applications to join the School of English & Media Studies as Visiting Artist – Theatrical Director for a 12-week term during the period 9 November 2009 to 19 March 2010.  Note this period encompasses two distinct parts, cast selection and commencement of rehearsals prior to Christmas and continued rehearsals and production in the New Year.

The successful candidate’s main focus over this period will be direction of the Manawatu Summer Shakespeare Festival which culminates in public performances in the Victoria Esplanade, Palmerston North during March 2010.  Performers and production team are drawn both from Massey students and staff as well as members of the Manawatu community.

The Visiting Artist will also have the opportunity to:
    Develop and progress his/her own work;
    Work with extramural students at contact courses held in January 2010;
    Work closely with staff and students within the School;
    Provide workshops/presentations for the Manawatu Community.

The Visiting Artist will receive a salary of NZ$10,000 and rent-free use of a downtown flat.
