CALLING ALL YOUNG & HUNGRY AUCKLANDERS!
Registrations are now open for theatre-obsessed young Aucklanders to take part in the Young & Hungry Festival of New Theatre – a showcase of three fresh new plays written especially for the text generation.
Produced by Auckland Theatre Company, in association with the Young and Hungry Arts Trust (Wellington), the festival takes place simultaneously in both cities from the 9 – 24 July.
The festival gives talented young Aucklanders aged between 15 – 25 the opportunity to be actors, designers, stage managers, publicists and backstage crew – all whilst being mentored by seasoned professionals.
And this year ‘Glee!’ freaks better warm-up their jazz hands because for the first-time YOUNG & HUNGRY features a musical! Not for the fainthearted, Grant Buist’s FITZ BUNNY LUST FOR GLORY is described by director, Simon Coleman as Rocky Horror meets Monty Python!
"We are looking for a cast who are triple threats”, says Simon. “That's actors who can sing and dance. There is a lot of musical theatre talent in Auckland and we want them in this production. If you can play a musical instrument then there's an opportunity for you as well.”
Registrations close at 5pom on Monday 1st March. Auditions start two weeks later.

Break out your lederhosen and moisten your strudel - here comes the class of 1994. Five Kiwi kids are about to experience the trip of a lifetime when they take on Germany. How will they cope with the culture shock, the language and the numerous stereotypes? Is there more to New Zealand than pavlova, All Blacks and buzzy bees?
An actor, director and award-winning playwright, Lauren looks forward to meeting her cast and crew so she can share embarrassing photos of herself as an exchange student back when denim overalls were cool! Lauren has lived and studied in Germany and EXCHANGE is based on her experiences.
THINNING by Eli Kent, directed by Laurel Devenie
Schools out forever! Yeah Right. In the limbo time between the end of high school and 'real life', a group of teenagers leave their city lives behind to go apple thinning. Join best mates Isaac, Adam, Troy, Lily, Fraggle and Billie as they break-up, hook-up, fall in love, get drunk, fall over and come out in one last explosive summer together before they might never see each other again. In THINNING you meet people you love, people you hate and people like you. A play about growth and gravity from one of New Zealand's emerging writing talents.
Eli has been involved in professional theatre since his teens, has performed in numerous shows in Wellington and is the author of several award-winning plays including The Intricate Art of Actually Caring and Rubber Turkey.
FITZ BUNNY LUST FOR GLORY by Grant Buist, directed by Simon Coleman

Grant Buist is an award-winning cartoonist and animator whose work has appeared in Re:Mix, Rip It Up, Pavement and in music videos for many New Zealand bands. Director Simon Coleman describes the style of the show as dark and sexy, full of political satire and quick wit.
