Invitation to Direct at the Fortune Theatre
The Fortune Theatre invites expressions of interest from qualified and experienced Theatre Directors who are interested in directing one or more productions in our Summer/Autumn 2010 season.
The Fortune operates a four week rehearsal period (including production week) with a six day rehearsal schedule – Monday to Saturday or Tuesday. Productions open on the Friday or Saturday evening of the fourth week. The fee is $4,400 (gross) per play and there will be accommodation and airfare assistance for directors who reside outside Dunedin.
A separate application should be submitted for each production for which you wish to be considered. Applications will be considered and you will be advised no later than the end of December 15, 2009 as to the result of your application. The productions that require a director for the summer-autumn season are: Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte adapted for the stage by Jane Thornton and Conjugal Rites by Roger Hall.
The production dates are: Wuthering Heights – Rehearsals commence March 15, production opens April 10 and the production closes on May 2. Conjugal Rites – Rehearsals commence April 26, production opens May 21 and the production closes on June 12, 2010.

Applications are accepted via email to: manager@fortunetheatre.co.nz and for hardcopy applications please address all applications to The Artistic Direction Committee, Fortune Theatre Trust 231 Stuart Street Dunedin, 9016 marked confidential. Applications must be received by Wednesday December 9, 2009.
In your application please provide a brief indication of how you view the play and what elements are necessary for you to stage a successful production. Please indicate any casting that would be central to your production. You are free to approach actors to ascertain their availability but you should make it clear that such an approach does not constitute an offer of work which can only be made by the Fortune Theatre. Curriculum Vitaes and current headshots for actors who you may approach can be included with your application. Casting can be constrained by budgets and a copy of the confidential production budget can be made available. The Fortune Theatre reserves the right to pre-cast plays.
The Fortune employs a set and costume designer to work with you on your production along with lighting/sound design and stage management staff. If you have any other requirements (live music, composition, specialist design) please make this known at the time of application along with any related fee quotations.
