Physical Theatre Performer

Organisation/person name:
Co Theatre Physical
Work type:
Permanent: Part-Time
Work classification:
Acting
Job description:

Co Theatre Physical is on the hunt for a new physical theatre performer.  We are currently looking to tour an established show, but need to replace one of our rising stars. If you’re not aware of physical theatre, take a look at our website to learn more about our shows and see videos of our work. Click on the link www.cotheatrephysical.co.nz

If you are an actor with a background or current interest in dancing, gymnastics, stunt work or enjoy physical activities with an interest in extending your abilities then please apply.  The position we are looking to fill is for a long term ‘project based’ role involving an established show and the creation of new shows in the future.  You will be creative, collaborative and have skill in improvisation, comedic timing and devising theatre.

Performances are in Auckland, other areas out of town, and some years we are also away in Australia for a couple of weeks in the year- some flexibility around this is required.

Through a workshop audition we will see if you are up for the challenge of being part of this unique team. You need not have had experience before, however physical strength/ ability, co-ordination, an interest in physically based performance, and acting ability is required.

We are auditioning from 10am to 3pm on Sunday the 15th May 2011. Although long, the audition needs to be seen as a chance to learn- much like a free acting workshop.

The audition process will be physically demanding and will require you to bring along a ‘Story of Extremity’ (something from your life experience, or from a play, film, novel, short  story).  We will use this in the workshop. Please also bring water, high energy snacks, comfortable clothes to move in, and your enthusiasm as this will be fun!

To apply, please send us your CV outlining your relevant experience and a recent photo.

We are looking for potential and the right attitude, so see what we do and it might be your new best experience!
