Programmes Manager, 30hrs/week
The Physics Room has been responsible for the development of New Zealand’s leading arts practitioners since 1996. We act as a catalyst for the incubation and promotion of ideas and debate through gallery-based exhibitions, publications and offsite contemporary art projects.
The Physics Room is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to develop curatorial and exhibition management experience. Working closely with the Director, the Programmes Manager will play a major role in the successful delivery of exhibitions, performances and events at The Physics Room over the coming year.
Key responsibilities:
• Initiate a select amount of offsite projects per annum under guidance of the Director
• Coordinate and support exhibition installations, events and functions
• Support the Director with the delivery of special events for patrons and sponsors
• Support and participate in education and public programmes
• Be a sounding board for the Director's programming ideas for The Physics Room, assisting with editing of texts and publicity writing
• Manage the volunteers programme
• Organise the distribution and archiving of publications
• Work closely with the Director to maintain excellent relationships with exhibiting artists, external technicians and contractors
• Consult with the Director and external curators as required, on project plans and installation requirements
• Manage the exhibition installation process, working with contract technicians at the discretion of the Director when required
• Maintain the storeroom, ensuring tools for installations are well organised and well stocked. You will follow all heath and safety protocols at The Physics Room and work to establish protocols where needed through you
• Manage the movement of artworks to and from The Physics Room
Preferred
• Essay writing skills & media experience
• Proposal writing
• Ambitions within the curatorial field
