Gallery Educator

As well as providing a platform for established and emerging New Zealand artists, the City Gallery Wellington which is a business unit of the Wellington Museums Trust, initiates and brings to New Zealand audiences benchmark international exhibitions. Through our exhibitions and public programmes we are committed to growing and strengthening the audience for contemporary visual arts.
Gallery Educator
You’ll be an experienced teacher, preferably with a relevant degree in Fine Arts or Art History. You’ll have a good knowledge of both the current New Zealand Curriculum Framework—especially the Arts Curriculum—and of contemporary visual arts theory and practice. You’ll demonstrate excellent teaching and group management skills, and be able to plan and deliver curriculum-based services for a wide range of different levels and subjects. Working with the Gallery Educator Māori, you’ll also co-ordinate the administration, reporting, promotion and evaluation of education programmes.
We are seeking an outstanding communicator who is skilled at making complex ideas simple and engaging. A self-starter, innovative and flexible, you’ll welcome challenges and enjoy working as part of a team. Interpreting works of art by New Zealand and international artists for diverse audiences, your teaching role will include the development of guided tours and written resources for education visitors, as well as practical art-making workshops for primary and secondary school students.
Along with the position specific requirements we seek individuals with a good knowledge of contemporary visual arts practice, the NZ Arts Curriculum and the ability to develop and teach practical workshops and interpret artworks.
- Experienced teacher
