Education Manager Services Brief 2010
NZ Sculpture OnShore wishes to engage a Contractor to provide Education Manager services towards achieving the objectives of the 2010 NZ Sculpture OnShore Exhibition at Fort Takapuna, North Shore.
In addition to the installation of approximately 100 sculptures on the grounds of Fort Takapuna, and additional works indoors in its temporary indoor gallery, the signature biennial event features a youth programme with guided tours for classrooms and families and teacher resources. The popular Childrens Sculpture @ The Fort (administered by a committee) is installed in the historic underground fort during the exhibition and involves the direct participation of ten Auckland-area primary and secondary schools.
Key dates and timeline:
15 March Education Programme finalised and approved by board
Beginning of Term 2 Dissemination of promotional materials to Auckland-area schools
Beginning of Term 4 Dissemination of teacher resources to participating schools
2 – 14 November Exhibition open to public between 10:00am – 6:00pm daily
It is expected the Education Manager will personally conduct tours during the exhibition (weekdays for schools and weekends for families)
The Contractor will support the Curator, Rob Garrett, and General Manager, Anne Rodda, in undertaking all the responsibilities of the 2010 NZ Sculpture OnShore Exhibition Project, as directed by Rob Garrett and Anne Rodda. The Contractor will also work closely with the CS@TF committee and provide support.

Our Vision
NZ Sculpture on Shore wishes to achieve a high quality art experience for visitors and to raise significant funds for NZ Friends of Women’s Refuges through the sales of art works, catalogues and entry tickets. NZ Sculpture On Shore is continuing its process of lifting the artistic profile of the exhibition; refining the event’s points of difference; and maintaining the broad volunteer base and wider community of support for the exhibition and its cause.
Our Business Objectives
NZ Sculpture OnShore will deliver a high quality art exhibition that will:
- Create a lively, informative and engaging experience for visitors;
- Be an enjoyable, professional, supportive and rewarding experience for participating artists;
- Contribute to NZSOS meeting all the compliance requirements and outcome expectations of the land owners North Shore City Council and Department of Conservation;
- Contribute to NZSOS meeting the expectations of sponsors; and
- Contribute effectively to the fundraising goals of NZ Friends of Women’s Refuges.
Scope of Services
To provide Education Manager services in the 2010 NZ Sculpture OnShore Exhibition.
The role will assist the Curator, Rob Garrett, the General Manager, Anne Rodda, and the committee of Children’s Sculpture @ The Fort.
Responsibilities
The Contractor will undertake the following responsibilities:
- Develop, with the Curator, the General Manager, and the CS@TF Committee a comprehensive youth programme appropriate to the objectives of the organisation
- Work, with the General Manager, and the CS@TF committee to promote the youth programme
- Develop, create, produce, and disseminate teacher resources relating to the 2010 exhibition
- Manage the schools tours bookings process
- Conduct tours for schools on the weekdays and for families on the weekends
- Report progress and results on a regular basis and as required.

By negotiation
Relevant experience and skills with a proven track record. Ability to communicate with teachers and artists.
