SCAPE Project Assistants
Fixed Term: 2 September – 7 November 2010
Hours: Approximately 4-5 hours per day during normal business hours, 7 days a week (on a rostered daily basis between 3 people) from 24 September – 7 November. In addition, approximately 10 hours training and preparation between 2 – 23 September in the lead up to SCAPE 2010.
Fee: to be negotiated and discussed during interview.
Group: Art & Industry Biennial Trust Board
Responsible to: Direct report to Andrea Bell, Public Art Project Manager; with a coordination report to artist Richard Maloy; and Education and Public Programmes Coordinator, Sally Airey.
Relationships: Visitors; Other Project Assistants, SCAPE Visitor Hosts; Public Art Project Manager, Security, Functions and Event staff; Director and other SCAPE staff.
Primary Purposes:
The 3 SCAPE Project Assistants for 45 Attempts at making a Sculpture will work across a variety of public spaces in Christchurch city assisting artist Richard Maloy in the physical construction of his work for SCAPE 2010. Working one on one with the artist, the Project Assistants will provide the public interface of Richard Maloy’s art project to visitors.
Description of work
Key duties of the SCAPE Artist Project Assistant during the period of employment for the SCAPE 2010 Christchurch Biennial of Art in Public Space will include the following:
- Collecting and packing down materials at the start and finish of each day
- Informing SCAPE Visitor Hosts at SCAPE Visitor Information Hub of selected working location each day
- Constructing sculptures as directed by Richard Maloy
- Updating Public Art Project Manager of stock levels and receiving deliveries on site
- Driving SCAPE van with supplies from headquarters to delivery point as required
- Liaising with SCAPE visitors including assisting with the running and operation of workshop activities and/or community and school group participation in activities relating to 45 Attempts at making a Sculpture
- Providing a professional and informed point of contact for SCAPE visitors about Richard Maloy’s work.
