An exceptional opportunity exists at Auckland Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira for an experienced educator or management professional with experience and skills relevant to the cultural heritage sector. We welcome applications for the position of Lifelong Learning Manager who will lead the development of learning and leisure programmes based on special exhibitions and Museum collections, for schools, families, tourists and other audiences.

Responsibilities

Reporting to Director Visitor Services, Learning and Online Delivery, the Lifelong Learning Manager will lead the strategic development and delivery of learning experiences throughout the Museum, Discovery Centre and specified off-site locations. On internal planning teams, and in consultations with external stakeholders, the Lifelong Learning Manager will be the lead advocate for the learning and leisure needs of schools, families, tourists, local communities and other visitors, as consistent with goals and activities described in the Museum’s current and future Annual Plans.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary and/or a teaching qualification with at least 5 years experience at managerial level

Experience

• Proven ability to engender team enthusiasm and commitment

• Creative thinking skills with an entrepreneurial mindset to excel at establishing successful working relationships with stakeholders and allied organisations.

• Good working knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum, contemporary learning theory and participatory experiences within a museum or similar environment.

• Proven ability in working effectively within an interdisciplinary team environment and experience with project management methodology in exhibition delivery including narrative exhibitions, discovery centres and digital/online attractions

• New Zealand and/or international expertise in mainstream and educational tourism products relating to visitor attractions.

• Knowledge and experience of tikanga Māori and/or Pacific cultures. Competency in te reo Māori would be an advantage.

• High level written and communication skills that can be used to communicate effectively on new business opportunities and data analysis.
