Job description: 

The Te Papa Fish Team is in need of a Collection Technician to provide technical support for its research subcontract (Biosystematics of NZ EEZ Fishes), over a period of parental leave cover.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Database Te Papa fish collections that are priorities for research outputs within the research contract and undertake data grooming of existing fish collection records
  • Service current fish loans associated with the research subcontract, and review all outstanding fish loans
  • Support collection visits by project specialists, particularly provision of collection data and associated information, help coordinate travel arrangements for overseas visitors, and capture new data generated during visits, e.g. new registrations, specimen identifications, nomenclatural changes, holder locations, and links to radiographic and photographic images.

It is desirable that you have a university degree or equivalent professional experience, a high level of computer skills, familiarity with all aspects of the KE EMu database, an understanding of the development and purpose of museum fish collections, familiarity with fish taxonomic nomenclature, and an understanding of the documentation and compliance issues relating to the specimen loans process.

This is a fixed-term contract until 21 December 2012.
